He is a Navy Hospital Corpsman, stationed in Hawaii’s Kaneohe Bay. She was on vacation from the Mainland. They were introduced to one another by the mutual acquaintance of a Ministerial family. Little did they know, their lifelong prayers would be answered. All it required was a little touch of magic.
She purchased a NY Times bestseller to read as she waited for friends along the Waikiki shore. The endless island sights and activities however, left her no opportunity to even turn to the first page.
He offered to take her to the airport on the last day of her trip. Before passing through security checkpoint, she reached in her travel bag and pulled it out for him to keep: The Five People You Meet in Heaven. He promised to return this book to her someday. She then proceeded to the gates of her flight, with a boarding pass in one hand and his souvenir sailor hat in the other.
“But all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time.”
He found himself in California weeks later. After several hours on the road north bound to the Bay Area, he watched the sun rise and anticipated seeing her in the day ahead. He pulled over to read the final pages of her book, which concluded a parable of unexpected connections.
As time and chance would have it, they met once again, only to write the first chapter of their own life story together.
And They Lived Happily Ever After.
